From California Dreaming to the Real McCoy: My book is getting closer to publication!
Doña Quixote is the only one in our household who is not surprised by the steady progression of my book from a flabby manuscript to a limber stack of proof pages. Some weeks ago my page-stack even acquired a cover. Most astonishing, however, is that MEMORY’S LAST BREATH: FIELD NOTES ON MY DEMENTIA is already being advertised on booksellers’ pages! Though it will only be published on June 6, 2016, pre-ordering is now available.
This is what the Real McCoy looks like:
In subsequent posts, I will give more information about the book–for example, I will tell the story behind the photo of Peter and me that peeks through the bars of the cover design.
You can get more info about MEMORY’S LAST BREATH in the Books section of my website.
To pre-order MEMORY’S LAST BREATH, check out the websites of the following retailers–do shop around, because the prices and available formats vary from seller to seller.

Oh, Gerda.. I love this cover! This is one of my favorite pics of you two. I also think the bars are a very keen visual expression of your story. Well done! Love you you both, see you soon.

Thanks so much, Mary. It means a lot to me that you as an artist love the cover. An artist at Hachette who’s name I can’t remember now designed it. I was given three versions to choose from, all somewhat similar, so my choice was mostly based on the letter font I liked best. My agent said that this was one of the best set of cover choices she has seen, so I guess I was very lucky. I love your comment about the bars. Lots of love to you and David–see you when it’s party-time again!

I’d recognize Peter’s eyebrow and nose anywhere! Can’t wait to get my copy of your book, Gerda!

What a hilarious comment, Franci! And so true. Peter’s eyebrows are a sort of a 2nd and 3rd partner in our relationship..I adore them, especially now that he is older and they are zebra-striped and each have their own personality! You are so sweet to comment and be enthusiastic about my book. I have appreciated your interest and support over all the many years we have known you and am very grateful for the friend you are to Peter. xoxox
