Thanks for your lovely comment, Rieksie. I am so glad that I found a way to put a little bit of your family on my blog! After learning more about Sonja in my and Ingrid’s correspondence, I wish I could know her better! How lovely that she skyped and you could see the family. Kyla is about 2 now, isn’t she? The photos that Ingrid sends show her to be so lovely. Can’t remember now if you have met Kyla in the flesh–I can just imagine her fat little arms and legs and the feel of her baby skin! If you have and you have any photos, I’d love to have them. Also, if you have any impressions of Edith when you met her, I’d love to hear them. INgrid suggested that I ask you. (YOu can send it in e-mail, if you do.) Have a lovely weekend! xoxox

I wanted to be the first to leave a reply but Ria (Rieks) you beat me to it!

The process of collaborating with Gerda has been nothing less than “cathartic” as I have tried to process the events of my mother’s life in order to understand my own and all the generational baggage that I have inherited and passed on, whether deliberately or subconsciously. Gerda, your choice of the Klimt image is inspired as I have spent some time exploring the triple goddess archetype of maiden, mother and crone.

Your choice of video footage showing South Africa in 1985 is very sobering and reminds me how intense the situation was and why I needed to go.

Thanks so much for your loving support. I look forward to the next installment.

Thanks for your very kind comments, Ingrid. I believe in storytelling as catharsis–and therapy! I came upon the Klimt image and immediately wondered how I could use it in Edith’s story–I love it that it’s original title is in German. I will get on to the next episode as soon as I can. Not much chance over the weekend–Peter and I are taking care of Kanye and Aliya on Friday through Saturday afternoon, then Marissa and Adam will take over. Newton and Cheryl arranged a weekend for two! All the very best to you and Ted and the other people in your family.
