Gerda, this is a lovely piece of writing & I am so glad that you can still compose stories. This is Sue Wurtzburg, who was in feminist studies with you for a few years. I am now living in Hawai’i. ❤️

Dewar Sue, I remember you so well from our days in adjoining offices. How wonderful that you live in Hawaii, no doubt with your current canine love by your side. Thanks so much for your kind words about my writing. My warmest wishes go with you.

Dearest Gerda, your ability to research, dissect, understand, then explain the intricate workings and negotiations of your (and our) neural functions continues to amaze me! Thank you so much for this wonderful and wittily illustrated piece. We have greatly enjoyed yours and Peter’s delightful senses of humor over many years, and continue to do so in our zoom chats. Sending you all our love and many hugs! <3 PS: When we next meet I'll tell you about my lifelong fantasy about being a cartoonist!
    Love, Mary

Dearest Mary, thanks so much for always loving my writing and your accompanying analysis of what it achieves–a response to lift a still-wanna-be writer’s heart! Can’t wait to talk soon, and will be sure to ask about your cartoonist dreams. Not too late to do that–as long as you don’t stop the astonishing work you’re doing with your painting. Love, Gerda

No bravo without your edits and your persuasive argument that the piece had merit and that I should go on with it. What would I ever do without you? Not even going to imagine that. Particularly your help on this and yesterdays’ marvelous celebration with it’s glorious dessert as the cherry on top of our long sister-wife-hood. Love you, my dearest Friend.

What an incredible post. When my parents were in the first days of their marriage on a rainy night my father came into the house after work and my mother said “Since you’re already wet and cold could you go get my purse from the car?” The “already wet and cold” was something they said through their 70 year marriage and the day my father didn’t understand what she meant may have been one of her hardest days. Mom asks about you almost every time we speak and I will be sure to share this incredible post with her.

Dearest Lynne, Thanks for your amazing response. The fact that your mother, who is the most love-giving and honorable and dedicated of spouses could make a hurtful slip and then share it as a joke with your father all their lives makes me feel so much less awful about my response to Peter. And then the understanding that it brings when you say your Dad could no longer remember the joke—that says it all. You KNOW what it felt like to Peter, and when it dawned on me, to me. I so love your mom and wish I could hold her hand again sometime, but I also know that there are “last times” that have already happened and this may be one of them. However, the moments of being bathed in your mother’s pure love are enough to comfort me that i did experience more than a life-time’s worth of such an unexpected blessing to receive from the matriarch of a family I love and admire. So glad I can still vicariously experience her through you! Thanks so much for this wonderful comment.
